Piano lessons in Montreal
Welcome to the web page of my Montreal studio. For over 15 years I have been helping adults and young people achieve their goals at the piano.
Teaching Philosophy
My aim is to cultivate a natural, expressive, sustainable relationship with the piano through a synthesis of traditional pedagogy and whole-body movement modalities.
Healthy movement patterns are absorbed over time until the our body develops the intuitive capacity to apply them in whatever music we choose to play.
Core principles of music theory, combined with instinctive musical communication, lead to a deeper understanding of the music you play and listen to.
Technique, as I teach it, refers to your physical approach to the piano in whatever music you play. Issues are dealt with in the context of real music, not mechanical exercises. My approach favours efficiency, physical freedom and injury prevention, and is informed by my own experience recovering from a repetitive strain injury.
Choosing the right music makes all the difference, and this is one of my favourite parts of teaching piano. I want you to thoroughly enjoy playing while leaning in to your specific challenges.
