Hello and welcome to the web page of my Montreal piano studio. For over 15 years I’ve been helping adults and children of all levels achieve their goals at the piano.

I am a graduate of Toronto’s Glenn Gould School and l’Université de Montréal, where I completed a doctorate in piano performance in 2014. I have taught piano at the university level as well as for 7 years at l’École de musique Vincent-d’Indy.

My experience in nonclassical music (jazz, pop, musical theatre and Newfoundland folk) allows me to guide students according to their unique interests, whether the goal is to play Bach, Einaudi, or anything in between. Whatever the style, we will work on understanding the theory behind the music and discovering how it speaks to our emotions the way it does.

Technique, as I teach it, refers to your physical approach to the piano in whatever music you play. Boring exercises are not required! My approach favours efficiency, physical freedom and injury prevention, and is informed by The Alexander Technique as well as my own experience recovering from a repetitive strain injury.

Learning piano at any age can enrich your life in meaningful ways. It has been shown to improve cognitive development, long-term brain health, goal setting and problem solving skills, emotional awareness and overall happiness.

Programs and Fees

Beginner: Ages 8-15 (Note: I don’t accept students younger than 8)
A comprehensive introduction to the piano including sight-reading, repertoire, ear training, theory and improvisation.

Adult Beginner: Ages 16 and over
Adults are given different beginner material from children. The goal is to rapidly attain the level of reading and technique necessary to play music you will enjoy. Most adults who practice regularly reach this point in 6 to 12 months.

Beginner Lesson Fees:
$39 – 45 minute lesson
$45 – 1 hour lesson

Weekly lessons are mandatory for beginners. This ensures that you progress quickly enough to maintain interest.

No materials are required in advance of your first lesson. Should you choose to continue afterward, you will need to purchase 2-3 books and an instrument to practice on.

To schedule your first lesson, use this contact form or call 514-772-0930.

(Vincent-d’Indy 4e année / RCM grade 5 and above)

We will begin by assessing any foundational issues that may be holding back your piano playing. Often these can be corrected quickly through simple technique adjustments and clear practice strategies.

Choosing the right music makes all the difference, and this is one of my favourite parts of teaching piano. I want you to thoroughly enjoy playing while making steady progress toward your long term goals.

Informal studio recitals are organized twice a year for those who wish to perform.  I am experienced at preparing students for university auditions and exams through Vincent-d’Indy, the Royal Conservatory and McGill Conservatory.

Intermediate/Advanced Lesson Fees:
$50 – 1 hour lesson

Weekly lessons are recommended, however bi-weekly or flexible schedules are also possible.
